Purpose

I believe my purpose in life is to be the best bartender this side of the Mississippi. That's not to say I don't plan on going to college, because I most certainly do. I plan to go to Vanderbilt to double major in English and Microbiology. I love those things. I love them almost as much as I love bar tending. But I don't want to make a living writing books or studying bacteria. I'd rather find a good place to serve drinks and do that for the rest of my life than have to do anything....normal. With a job like bar tending, I can quit whenever I want, travel on the spur of the moment and find another job bar tending. Without a serious job, I wont have anything to tie me down. I'm free to roam the many pastures of the world as I please. I guess my whole purpose in life is to not take anything to seriously, including the purpose of my life. I think adaptability is the purpose of my life.

First time

The first time I drove a car was quite a long time ago. I was around 10 years old and at my dads house for the weekend. He asked me if I wanted to go with him down to the river. I of course said yes. He took me down to the river and when we got to the little dirt road that runs along side of the river, he shut the car off, stepped out of the car and told me to get behind the wheel. I did as I was told and boy was I bad. I couldn't drive at all. I was punching the gas, slamming the brakes, and like a bowling ball in a bumper line the car was going from one side of the road to another. My dad looked at me, I stopped the car, he looked at the door, I stepped out and we switched places. Upon situating ourselves in the car after the incident he made it quite clear to me that the next time I would be driving would be when there was a licence in my hand. No time before then did I ever drive with my dad again.

Have you ever been sitting down and enjoying a meal when a person at the table with you spits their food into their napkin? No matter what they could have been eating it couldn't have been as disgusting as the feeling you get from watching someone perform such a lude act. Sometimes I wish we lived in a country with a more personal relationship with their food. We are ok with eating "Mechanically Seperated Chicken" but not with eating bugs which are considered a delicacy in many cultures.

This summer I'm going to begin gardening organic vegetables, herbs, and fruits. I will be a step in the right direction in helping mother earth regain her dominance over the human race!

P.S go watch "Moon" it's the best movie of the year!

A Bored Man

When I saw him he seamed weary like he was disinterested in the conversation the teacher was attempting to have with the class. It was as if being at school was troubling him in the sense that he couldn't be at home, in his bed, nodding off to dreamland. He seemed inattentive and dull. His hand was barely holding his head up enough to give the appearance that he still had a pulse. He was indifferent to anything going on around him because he had been taken prisoner by his daydreams. He was King Nonchalant of the Apathetic Kingdom.

Taoism

Online the other day I decided to research the philosophical and religious beliefs classified as Taoism. I had always heard of it, but knew nothing of it. They believe their main goal in life to be to harmonize with the Tao, which is the cause of life that flows through everything. They also believe in meditation and justice. This lead me to the conclusion that George Lucas based the Jedi off of Taoism. The Tao alluding to the force, and the harmony and pursuit of justice being parallel to the Jedi way. I then did a search for Jedi and discovered that there is an actual church for the Jedi Religion which is a serious religion practiced in countries across the world. It turns out that the Jedi are based off of a mixture of religions with Taoism being a predominant one. People who practice Taoism also don't understand the Western concept of linear time, as their time is cyclical and they do not understand the concept of a personified god because their gods have no "body". I couldn't imagine cyclical time and it seems strange to me. I guess that is just the difference of cultures!

8th graders

When I think of silly, the first thing that comes to mind are the silly things that occurred at lunch today. As you may know, the 8th graders did their annual visit of Apollo today. Just around the time it was set for them to leave, it was time for Bryson Young and myself to be at lunch, which we were. Sadly, their buses had not arrived and they had all of our special young visitors had to wait in the area between the dome and commons area. As we ate our lunch Bryson and I continuously waved our hands at them, but to no avail because their hands remained motionless. We promptly through our trays away, and proceeded to be silly. We began to walk amongst the crowd of youngins' acting like we were one of them, asking what period we would be back at Burns, talking about teachers, gossiping with them and the like. We then continued on to ask the young ladies for their phone numbers, to which we were left fruitless. Before we had gotten to know our new friends properly their buses had arrived and we were left once again, alone, to our devices. We could see our new companions on the buses outside of the dome. We continued to wave at them and before we knew it, were putting on a show for them. We used the brick area under the windows as a curtain and began to play mime games with them, screaming, and having fun. The entire dome was watching us. As the buses began to pull away onto the horizon we ran with them parallel in the dome. Them driving away and us, unwilling to let them go, running with them. Before we knew it they were gone, and we were left to sob at the absence of our scantly forgotten compadres. Quite a silly lunch.
